Murray Ewing from Blimey! Loans gives us his predictions for the future of the industry, tells us why he loves Las Vegas and how he wanted to be a footballer when growing up in Scotland.

1. How long have you been at Blimey! Loans and what did you do previously?

We started Blimey! Loans in September 2010.  Prior to that I worked for another secured broker. I’ve been in the industry for 12 years.

2. What are the best and worst things about your job?

The best thing is that we can see how what we do makes a positive difference to people’s lives. The worst thing is not knowing what the future holds for the industry because it can be quite unstable.

3. If you could be any animal, what would you be and why?

Well my favourite animal is a tiger – they always look as though they are one step ahead.

4. What would you be doing if you weren’t working in this industry?

I used to work for Royal Mail in the sales department, so I probably would have just stayed there if I hadn’t moved into this industry.

5. What do you see happening in the secured lending industry in the next 12 months?

I see the industry getting stronger, with lenders perhaps increasing their LTVs or relaxing their terms. I think that there will be more flexibility from lenders in order to get the market back to higher levels.

6. Where is your favourite destination in the world and why?

Las Vegas, it’s a very vibrant place – a party city.

7. What is your favourite movie and why?

It has to be The Life of Brian. Every time I watch Monty Python it makes me laugh.

8. What did you want to be when you were a kid?

Like most kids in Scotland, I would have liked to have been a footballer.

9. What attracted you to the industry and why did you set up Blimey! Loans?

My brother was working in the industry before me, and he made me an offer I couldn’t refuse. I felt that it was time to move into an industry where I had more control, I didn’t want to just be one of a number. I wanted to make more of a difference. We set up Blimey! Loans in an industry we are familiar with, that we have a lot of experience in. We know what we are doing, we have good contacts and we offer excellent service. We thought that we could fill a niche which is missing, especially in the Scottish market.

 10. What do you like to do on your weekends off?
It varies, but I am quite a social person, so I like to see friends and enjoy myself.
